It uses language in a non-literal way, such as a metaphor, simile, or hyperbole, to create a vivid image or convey a deeper meaning.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Definition of a Figure of Speech<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A figure of speech, according to the Oxford Learner\u2019s Dictionary, is defined as \u201ca word or phrase used in a different way from its usual meaning in order to create a particular mental picture or effect.\u201d The Cambridge Dictionary defines a figure of speech as \u201can expression that uses words to mean something different from their ordinary meaning.\u201d According to the Collins Dictionary, a figure of speech is \u201can expression or word that is used with a metaphorical rather than a literal meaning.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">Figures of Speech in English Grammar<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In English grammar, there are around fifteen to twenty figures of speech. However, there are a few of them which are used more often than others.
