Tricky Logic Puzzles With Answers

• Three switches are outside a room, and one of them controls a light bulb inside. You can only enter the room once. How do you determine which switch controls the bulb? Answer: Turn on the first switch and leave it on for a few minutes, then turn it off and turn on the second switch. Enter the room — if the bulb is on, it’s the second switch; if it’s off but warm, it’s the first switch; if it’s off and cool, it’s the third switch.
• You have two ropes, each of which takes exactly 60 minutes to burn, but they burn unevenly. How do you measure exactly 45 minutes using these two ropes? Answer: Light one rope at both ends and the other rope at one end simultaneously. When the first rope finishes burning (30 minutes), light the other end of the second rope. It will finish 15 minutes later, totaling 45 minutes.
• A man pushes his car to a hotel and tells the owner he’s bankrupt. Why? Answer: He’s playing Monopoly.
• You’re in a room with two doors, one leading to certain death and one to freedom. There are two guards — one always lies, and one always tells the truth. You can ask only one question. What do you ask? Answer: Ask either guard, “What would the other guard say is the door to freedom?” Then choose the opposite door.
• There are five houses in five different colors, each with a person of a different nationality, drinking a different beverage, smoking a different brand of cigar, and keeping a different pet.
