Men make houses women make homes

Meaning:

It's often the men who build or acquire houses for their families, but it's usually women who provide the things that make a house into a home.

Examples:

  • John is a skilled carpenter and is responsible for building the structure of the house. But his wife, Sarah, is the one who makes it a home by adding the warmth and love that turns it into a place of comfort.
  • Tom and his wife, Maria, recently bought a new house. While Tom has been busy with renovations and repairs, Maria has been busy decorating and adding personal touches to make it feel like a home.
  • In our family, my father worked hard to build the house, but it was my mother who made it a home by creating a loving and welcoming environment for us all.
  • When Mike and his wife, Lisa, got married and moved into their new home, Mike was focused on the practical aspects of making it livable. But Lisa was busy making it a home by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
