Sentence/Example of Clotting:

The clotting of blood is of great physiological importance, for otherwise we might bleed to death even from a small wound.

John ran his hand along his arm and shoulder, and felt cold thick blood, clotting his sleeve.

This is a well-known protective mechanism to aid blood clotting.

The first of these is fibrin ferment (for its origin see section on Clotting below).

These observations clearly indicate that the clotting process is initiated by some change starting from these elements.

The process of clotting is also considerably accelerated by making the blood flow in a thin stream over a wide surface.

When we begin to inquire into the nature of clotting we have to determine in the first place whence the fibrin is derived.

Serum, for instance, very quickly loses its power of inducing clotting in fibrinogen solutions.

In both conditions there is a decided increase in the clotting power of the blood.

Its dangers—infection, air embolism, intravascular clotting, sudden death—are matters of record.
