Ferrous [adjective]

Mannar suggested ferrous fumarate, a compound widely used in iron tablets because the body absorbs it easily.

It gave a bluish-black color with impure ferrous sulphate and a dark color with ferric chloride.

Exceedingly sensitive tests are known for the ferrous and the ferric ions.

Perhaps the most instructive case of this kind, that we can study, is that of iron in ferrous and ferric salts.

If the zinc sulphide were not the less soluble, it would be rapidly converted into the black ferrous sulphide.

It is a comparatively easy matter to determine the relative solubility of zinc and ferrous sulphides.

It is best prepared in an apparatus like that shown in fig. 32, by acting on ferrous sulphide with dilute hydrochloric acid.

Ferric salts are thereby quickly reduced to ferrous; in hot solutions nitric acid is decomposed.

Ferrous Sulphide (FeS) is used for the preparation of sulphuretted hydrogen.

When iron is present it will be reduced to the ferrous state before the copper sulphide begins to separate.
