Mahatma [noun]

That was an unusually long speech for my Mahatma—proof that he was very much in earnest.

It was not in vain that Mahatma declared, “put up thy sword into the sheath.”

The idea was, to quote the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “political” and not “educational.”

It was, to quote the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “a concession to popular agitation.”

This is what Mahatma teaches us and this is the message of all India.

But it was not a Mahatma—it was in fact Nobody, of whom you have of course heard.

It was a sort of skeleton, or a ghost, or perhaps a Mahatma!

Before reading his written statement Mahatma Gandhi spoke a few words as introductory remarks to the whole statement.

And if you will only be a Mahatma, or a disciple, I will gladly let you have the serial rights in that great work.

Or an excited crowd, all wearing the little white Gandhi cap, rend the air with shouts of Mahatma Gandhi-ki jai!
